Automotive painting/after the 3rd coat of metallic base paint,is it necessary to sand bfore applying clear?
I’ve already applied 2-3 coats of primer and sanded it at 400 grit, my next step is to spray 2-3 coats of the super dark gray metallic. After the basecoat dries, is it necessary to sand before appyling the clear coat? Can i just spray the clearcoats after the basecoat dries. If so why? I will also add a antique silver pearl to the clear coat.
no your not suppose to sand basecoat. I think because it doesnt give it a high gloss finish in the end and because its really thin compared to primer so you will sand through 1 or 2 layers if not all of it right back to the primer.
