Building a 16 Ft. Grand Banks Dory
As a kid I did a lot of construction boats, mainly scale models that have not been able to navigate, although I did actual build a few boats were more or less able to navigate. I even once build a boat of 10 feet, or should I say raft. I accomplished this with some friends and we really enjoyed it sails on the local river. It was not really water proof and while one person was rowing, others had to ensure that they removed the water quicker then it was the entrance to our boat.
Then unfortunately one day it failed. I was rowing at the time, and we were in the middle of the river when it was clear that we were falling. I stopped rowing to assist with the watering, but it does slow the process of sinking, he did not stop. Then I started to row again in effort to reach land before we sank, thus avoiding having to swim to safety.
And guess what: We done! Just before the boat really started to flow, we managed to jump ashore. Here, we viewed our pride and joy slowly sank Down the River. Then we realized that we were on the wrong side of the river, which left us with a problem. Either we had to walk to the nearest bridge, 10 km upstream, so that would have been a walk of 20 kilometers, or swim to the other side.
We decided to swim. We have not seen many people, so we quickly undressed, and with one hand holding our clothes on water, we managed to return to our own side of the River. Just as we have trouble getting out of the water of a group of daughters of our own school passed, and I can tell you that we were not happy!
All this happened long ago and a few times in my life I had plans to build a boat again. I spent a good amount of time watching boat building plans, but with vessel size is important.
I usually watched the boats between 30 and 40 feet, but the workload has always asked unable to move forward with my plans to build boats.
Now, I decided to start small. I'm building a 16 ft. Grand Banks dory, which I want to equip an outboard motor of small size. I bought the boat building plans, I had the space work, and by the time you read this, I may already be finished.
Later, who knows, I could build a cabin cruiser 40 feet, and tow my Grand Banks dory behind me. So if my well-cabin cruiser, I can still row to safety in the Grand Banks dory my LP and my clothing.
